HARRISBURG – The office of U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) is partnering with Rep. Dawn Keefer (R-York/Cumberland) to honor Korean War veterans with the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal who live in her district. Toomey is working with the Korean Consul General to provide medals for United States veterans who reside in the 92nd Legislative District for their honorable service during the Korean War.
“Pennsylvania’s Korean War veterans bravely served our country, and it’s an honor for my office to recognize these heroes with the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal,” Toomey said. “For over half a century, many of these veterans have been unsung heroes. I encourage all Korean War veterans to contact my office for more information on the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal.”
“I am honored to help Sen. Toomey’s office and the government of the Republic of Korea recognize veterans of the 92nd Pennsylvania Legislative District for the sacrifices they made during the conflict,” Keefer said. “It is very appropriate we continue to remember those who defended freedom from communism and all its horrors decades ago.”
To receive the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal, an eligible veteran must have served in country during the Korean War from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953, or have participated in United Nations peacekeeping operations until the end of 1955. Members of the U.S. Navy are also eligible if they served aboard a naval vessel that was assigned to Korean waters during the 1950 to 1953 timeframe. It may also be awarded posthumously. The only document required is the Notice of Separation or DD-214 discharge document showing service in Korea.
Applications for the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal must be received by Friday, Aug. 3.
