DILLSBURG – Residents interested in attending Rep. Dawn Keefer’s (R-Dillsburg) free annual Farmer’s Breakfast should mark Thursday, Oct. 10, on their calendars. That’s the date Keefer will hold the breakfast from 8-10 a.m. at the Wellsville Fire Company, 95 Community St. Wellsville.
So far this session, House members have led efforts to help Pennsylvania agriculture grow by passing numerous bills, most of which have become law. These laws, among other things, address several current challenges facing our farmers by creating a special account to help fund the state’s response to threats to livestock or crops and provides technical and financial support to farmers for implementing best management practices. The laws also address the future of farming by reviving programs to educate school children about the importance of agriculture and healthy eating and raising awareness about career opportunities in the industry.
“There have been a lot of new and expanded efforts in agricultural programming in Pennsylvania. Understanding the challenges and pressures the state’s agriculture industry has been enduring, lawmakers worked with agricultural communities, businesses and stakeholders to develop a strategy to help agriculture grow in Pennsylvania,” Keefer said. “I’m excited to share these new opportunities and resources with farmers in my district. Make sure you don’t miss my annual Farmers’ Breakfast where you’ll learn not only about the new programs, but how to successfully access them as well.”
During the informative breakfast, attendees will receive an update on issues. Guest speakers in years’ past were Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding and former Secretary of Agriculture and House Majority Leader Sam Hayes. This year’s guest speaker and additional information will be released later.
