HARRISBURG – Senior Centers in York County will receive nearly $60,000 in 2019-20 Senior Community Center grants, Reps. Seth Grove (R-Dover), Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) and Dawn Keefer (R-Dillsburg); and Sens. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York), Mike Regan (R-York) and Dave Arnold (R-York) announced today.
“Staying active is a key for senior citizens to stay young. This $57,726 in funding will ensure centers in our communities continue to offer outstanding programing to older residents. We applaud the Department of Aging’s investment in our seniors. Our senior centers provide vital services to the social and mental well-being of senior populations in our communities yet struggle with limited budgets. These funds will aid them in a time when resources are limited,” the lawmakers said.
The following York County senior centers received funding:
• Windy Hill Senior Center: $22,026.
• Red Land Senior Center: $8,090.
• South Central York County Senior Center: $7,220.
• Crispus Attucks Active Living Center: $20,390.
The grants will help senior centers fund projects based on their applications, such as updating and modernizing facilities, providing new health and entertainment programs, upgrading technology, and enhancing marketing opportunities.
For example, Windy Hill will develop two programs to increase and enhance its intergenerational programming. The first project is an exercise class for individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and uses boxing, power moves, balance and weight training, agility, stretching, music, and dance to improve quality of life for those with the disease. The second program, in collaboration with stARTsomething through the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts and the Cultural Alliance of York County, is an artist residency. Senior center members and school students will learn about the history of dance, along with hands-on dance participation and related disciplines.
