York County Lawmakers Mourn the Loss of U.S. Marshal
1/18/2018
HARRISBURG – Members of the York County delegation to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives are saddened to learn of a shooting in Harrisburg this morning that resulted in the death of a deputy U.S. marshal and injury of a York City Police officer, both of whom lived in York County.

The delegation, which consists of Reps. Seth Grove (R-Dover), Kate Klunk (R-Hanover), Dawn Keefer (R-Dillsburg), Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York Township), Keith Gillespie (R-Hellam), Carol Hill-Evans (D-York City) and House Appropriations Committee Majority Chairman Stan Saylor (R-Red Lion), issued the following statement:

“Today is a sad day for everyone in the law enforcement community. Deputy U.S. Marshal Christopher Hill was killed while executing an arrest warrant in Harrisburg this morning. He leaves behind a wife and two children. Words cannot express our sorrow for his death.

“Hill bravely and proudly served in the U.S. Marshals Service for 11 years and is a U.S. Army veteran. He will be greatly missed by all those in law enforcement and the community which he served and protected.

“Officer Kyle Pitts, a member of the U.S. Marshals Taskforce, was also shot during the incident. The 10-year veteran York City Police officer is hospitalized with injuries and is expected to survive. We are grateful for this good news in a time of sadness.

“We wish Pitts a speedy recovery and join our entire community in mourning the loss of Hill. The danger our law enforcement professionals face every day protecting our community is ever present, and we owe them our deepest appreciation for their selfless service.

“These men should be applauded for their dedication to justice and we give them thanks for their service to country and community. We also graciously thank them for their unwavering commitment to serve and protect the people of south central Pennsylvania.”
